AZ Mindfree Project

A Little Bit Of Back Story

Hello! My name's Dann Huff.

The AZ Mindfree Project was my idea. It's the realization of something I've dreamed of for a long time: do something that will help people all around the state who are living with mental illness and/or
substance abuse. I intend to provide information and resources that can help people to make good decisions about their care as they move along on their journey towards recovery and healthfulness.

Sounds like a big job, doesn't it?

I've struggled with mental illness and substance abuse for most of my life. A few years after I became clean and dry I became employed at the Regional
Behavioral Health Authority (RBHA) for Pinal and Gila counties. In my eight years there I was first the Member Advocate, and then the Coordinator of Special
Programs for Adults. These two experiences, first as a consumer, then as an adminstrator, gave me a unique vantage point of the mental health and substance abuse treatment system.

As Member Advocate my main job was education. I went around the region spreading the word about recovery. I'm very proud that, in very many cases, I was the
first one to tell these people that they could get better. That recovery was real. So I have a deep understanding of what people want and need to hear, and how
to gain the knowledge they need to move towards wellness.

It is a big job. But I'm retired and have lots of time. And I'm hoping that, as I move along, I will meet some fellow travelers who can help me expand The Project.

Thanks for stopping by the site, and thanks for taking the time to read this. Don't be shy about getting in touch with me if you have any questions or any thoughts
to share.
